5 Ways to Make Your Canva Content Look More Professional...

Updated: Jan 22, 2022

Canva is a great way to create your own social media content, but there are some instant giveaways that someone is using typical “Canva” templates and setups. Let’s explore how to stand out from the millions of users using that platform.

1. Use a custom font that is not on Canva

Canva Premium offers an option to upload a font so you can customize your social media and blog thumbnails to exactly the look you’re aiming for. This is a great option to avoid the basic fonts used on Canva like League Spartan, Glacial Indifference, Open Sans and more.

2. Use Font Effects

As an avid user of Photoshop, I can say that Canva is definitely keeping up and competing with the basics that the average user needs from Photoshop. This includes letter shadowing, letter outlines, even neon effects! This is included in Canva on the free version for every user to enjoy.

3. Avoid popular stock photos

Despite Canva incorporating new stock photos onto their platform, there are definitely some redundancies between brands because of the same stock photos being used. If you’re in B2B and you use the first couple of pictures that pop up on the “Photos” tab on Canva, other businesses will notice.

Try using UnSplash, Pexels or use paid stock photo services like ShutterStock or a custom photo service like Girl Boss Stock.

4. Get custom templates made for you, instead of the pre-made templates

The pre-made templates that are available on Canva are great for beginners but if you want to stand out from the crowd, you can get custom-made templates that are one of a kind.

These custom-made templates are popular for my clients who are working on a tight budget, who also want to learn social media skills and keep control over their profile and branding. To get started, you can either purchase these templates through Fiverr, Etsy or through a social media marketing consultant.

5. Use transparent background images

Try the Background Remover Effect Tool to use images and make them different that the original photo. This is great to get more creative use out of your own pictures of yourself or professional stock photos too.

Let’s get started on stepping up your social media content creation game and stand out from the crowd on any budget!
