Reigniting the Hustle: My Journey from Burnout to Balance

Hey, Her Hustlers! My goodness, it's been a minute since we last connected. For those of you who are new here, I’m Tiffany Monique, founder and Editor-in-Chief of Her Hustle Magazine. I wanted to take a moment to reintroduce myself and give you a glimpse into my journey and why I've been a little quiet lately. Transparency is key, and I want to be open with you because we’re all in this together.

When I created Her Hustle Magazine and Women Funding Women, I envisioned building a powerful community of ambitious, creative women—a space where we could all thrive while supporting each other. The dream was to create an ecosystem where women could grow their businesses, achieve their goals, and take care of themselves from the inside out. Our slogan, “The business is only as strong as the woman behind it,” wasn’t just a catchy phrase; it was my truth. I built these platforms because they were what I needed at the time. But as anyone who has ever built something from the ground up knows, it’s tough creating the very thing you need while you’re still in need of it yourself.

I went through personal trials while trying to stay afloat professionally. Life was life’ing, y’all. I ended a 10+ year relationship, became a new mother dealing with post-partum, and got laid off from my job—unemployment wasn’t even covering the rent. I remember looking in the mirror and saying to myself, “Well, you say you’re a hustler. Let’s see,” and see we did! Between therapy, prayer, and some legendary hustling, I survived eight months without a steady job, relying on freelance gigs and side businesses to make it work. I worried so much during that time that when the worry disappeared, I thought something was wrong with me. “Is this that peace that surpasses all understanding, or am I losing it?” Spoiler alert: I was burned out, sis.

For months, I couldn’t even think about entrepreneurship. I unpublished Her Hustle Magazine and dissolved Women Funding Women. I was mentally tapped out. My brain couldn’t process it. I literally couldn’t open my laptop, which felt foreign after years of being glued to it. It took about 9 months after regaining stability to even start feeling like myself again.

But after the fog lifted, I did some soul-searching and asked myself, “What do I truly want?” I realized I needed businesses that aligned with my passions and the life I wanted to live, not just my financial aspirations. I had to give me what I needed first before I could pour into others. From the outside, that might’ve looked like inconsistency, but from my perspective? Whatever it was, it was necessary. Me being here ultimately means, I didn’t give up.

During that time of reflection, I realized that Her Hustle Magazine and Women Funding Women still hold space in my heart and will remain part of the legacy I leave behind. While I won't be reinstating the 501(c)3 status and transitioning WFW back into a nonprofit organization, I will definitely still be on a mission to build a holistic and self-sustaining ecosystem for women like me—like us—with the drive, ambition, and vision to make a difference in a world that often makes it feel delusional to even try. But that’s exactly why we must try. I’m here to be an example of a woman chasing her dreams while staying fully awake to the realities of life.

With that said, I’m thrilled to share that we are integrating the Women Funding Women (WFW) initiative into the Her Hustle Magazine & Media business model! This merger is not just a strategic move; it’s a heartfelt commitment to creating a vibrant and supportive community for all of us.

What the integration means for you:

For you, this integration means gaining the combined power of knowledge and resources that will holistically enhance your entrepreneurial experience when joining our subscription service. In addition to quarterly print issues, a printables library full of easily accessible worksheet, guides, and journals, exclusive content and event, you will now have the opportunity to benefit from the holistic grants, designed to empower and uplift women like you, helping to amplify your journey toward success. Her Hustle Magazine's Subscription isn't your average subscription! A portion of the subscription is given back to the community by way of micro grants that can be used for business expenses as well as therapy, coaching, physical instruction, networking events and more.

On a personal note, as a mother of a kindergartener, this shift is deeply significant for me. I never want to experience the level of burnout I felt before. This integration allows me to focus my marketing and scaling efforts more effectively, reducing the anxiety and time necessary to run my businesses. It also enhances the overall quality of my entrepreneurial journey and therefore my life while allowing me to stay true to my purpose.

Together, we can build a community where women support women, share resources, and celebrate each other's successes. I am excited for what lies ahead and can’t wait to see how we can all grow and thrive together.

I came out on top this time. Increased financial stability, I am delegating and automating like a mug lol thanks to an incredible team, and I've been building a beautiful and nurturing environment while navigating new territory as an ambitious and single mom. Every decision now is rooted in intention, I have an even clearer vision for what’s next, and I’m excited to take another swing at this thing. Excited to have all of you with me for the 4th year of this journey.
